April 21,2013: We took some guests for a short stroll in Duke Island Park and came across an area with a large population of Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica). The population we saw was along the paved trail along the river west of the bandstand.

It is not frequent to find such a large population in a area.
Besides the usual blue flowers with a redish tinge, we came across some pink and white flowers.
The populations of Virginia bluebells in Duke Island Park have have been cited on the internet for many years and we hope these native plants will continue to flourish. We hope you will take an easy stroll there and enjoy them.
